Too sexy for my Jammies
11/6/13
Nearly every day for the past few weeks I enter the girls' room after nap time or first thing in the morning, and Kate is missing an article of clothing. It started out innocent enough... a sock here, maybe her shirt unbuttoned. Gradually it escalated. One morning her left arm and shoulder were bare, sticking out the neck-hole of her pajamas. Then a few days later she had no pants on. It wasn't long before she was down to just her diaper. Today she finally maxed out:
This can lead no where good.....

Goodbye to Summer
I love Fall. It's my favorite season; that's why I capitalized it :) As I get older and my habits and responsibilities change, I have come to really, REALLY love the summer. Even though most people say summer is their favorite season, I've never been a summer lover. With kids, though, there is no better season! You get a respite from the constant runny noses of winter, and there is room to run and play. Summer means freedom! You can just go and do! You don't have to worry so much about weather or being prepared for things because, really, you don't need much to enjoy the heat.
I am a little sad this year to say goodbye to summer. We had a good run of being half-naked and running free in the backyard. Aaah, goodbye sun....
water table fun
lazy day picnics at the top of our hill, in the limited shade of the hedge. I'm not sure why this was their favorite picnic spot, but it was.
Nicholas with leaves in his ears. I'm pretty sure that expression is a glimpse of what "teenage Nicholas" is going to look like.
leaves coming out of almost every orifice
chillin' on the front steps with our aloe drink
Mando repainting an old bike that was given to us-- Nicholas REALLY wanted it to be red. Mando is just great like that.
Kate peeling a banana in front of our awesome square-foot garden.
we made sugar snap peas!
which quickly became rabbit food. We got to eat a few though :)
K and L swinging in our double swing scored free from Craigslist
Our garden
carrots, lettuce, corn in the early stages, cilantro, dill, spinach (we had already harvested all of it at this point), and sugar snap peas.
sidewalk chalk paint
running in the sprinkler
resting in the cool house during a particularly brutal heat wave
trying to appear in at least SOME of the pictures of our family.
our last carrot harvest
Carrots were the most fun to grow because they're so recognizable. Every time we went out, the kids would ask to eat a carrot. They would pick their own and rinse it off in the hose. Then they'd all walk around the yard munching. So fun.
awesome mother's day mugs... technically this might be late spring, not summer, but I'm counting it.
(I do not know what is going on with my hair)
driving the cozy coupes in the driveway
swinging at the playground
lou, k, Big N
I'm sure there is much, MUCH more that we did this summer (including an amazing Yoga Certification, Carmen coming to visit, and some awesome time at Hotel Rockwood in the Batesville), but I will try to blog about those things separately.
Goodbye awesome sunny weather. We can't wait to see you again next year.
While Mom is in the bathroom...
This is all too true for me, and I finally decided that enough was enough. I now lock my bathroom door, something I haven't done...ever, I think. Growing up I rarely even closed it because nobody was ever really around to see. (Something I know Dave also fell into the habit of doing--- that's how Jenn was able to sneak up behind him and shake his hips while he was peeing, so the pee went everywhere :) aah, still makes me laugh thinking about it). Anyway, my bathroom time is now MY TIME. I go in and I let me children run free while I empty my bowels in blessed privacy. It's wonderful. Unfortunately, I often come out of the bathroom to find that the children have also enjoyed their time alone.
99% of the time I find at least one child standing on the kitchen table.
One time I found Nicholas dropping a log in the front yard. Look closely...yes, that is poop.
And their escapades almost always include scavenging for food--- which means a lot of food ALL over the place. Here it's an entire bag of pretzels.
| "What's the big deal, Mom?" |
| You can't really tell, but I think this is a whole bag of dried beans on the stairs---or it may be a box of cereal, can't remember. |
This was a new one-- Kate emptied out all of Nicholas' clothes and climbed into his wardrobe to hide.
Nicholas took the opportunity to try and remove his blessing outfit from the plastic covering so he could "decorate it." Thank goodness he's not super dexterous.
One whole pound of popcorn kernels... *sigh*

Shame on Mommy for daring to pee alone. Shame.
